Smithers

Smithers, British Columbia
Thursday August 16-Saturday August 18, 2018

Over the past five years, hundreds of musicians have enjoyed varied and exciting programming at Orchestra North.  While this has been incredibly rewarding, it has also required limitless amounts of time and energy from a small but dedicated group of volunteers throughout the entire year.  In order to ensure the success of future Orchestra Norths, we have decided to take a step back from our regular programming in the summer of 2018.

But don’t panic: we DO have opportunities for musicians of all levels to connect, network, and play and hear great music.

1) We will host an extended 2018 Orchestra North Academy, which offers development and networking opportunities for professional musicians. Click here  for more information

2) Invitations are open to all to participate in for our Mini-ONSP: a 2-day project that will invite instrumentalists to work with renowned conductor Rosemary Thompson, and perform Mendelssohn’s piano concerto no. 1 with soloist Andrea Pedro. More beginning players are warmly welcome to workshop with Kent Dykstra to prepare a premier of a piece arranged by him.

Mini-ONSP starts Thursday, August 16 at 6pm and finishes with a 7:30pm concert Saturday, August 18.

We invite you to Smithers for two days of rehearsals and workshops. Come to reconnect with fellow northern musicians and join the Orchestra North Academy some excellent and enthusiastic music-making. What to expect?
-Focused symphony rehearsals preparing concert repertoire with professional leadership
-Beginning ensembles for strings and winds/brass under the direction of Kent Dykstra
